Google has done it once again. After the unveiling of its Google Glasses, most thought the company couldn’t trump that achievement – they were wrong. The search-engine giant has just released its latest innovation: Google smart contact lenses. What makes these lenses so ‘smart’ is their ability to detect dangerously low levels of blood sugar among diabetes patients.
Also known as Ophthalmic Electrochemical Sensors, the smart lenses are equipped with sensors that read chemicals in the eye’s tear fluid thereby picking up blood-sugar levels. Google could be making giant leaps in health technology should these smart lenses hit the market.
