A simple social media photo-sharing tool, or an addictive self-indulgent platform? Whatever your thoughts are about this social media platform, one thing is clear: its popularity is only increasing – growing in size last year by 23%. The four-year-old app was bought by Facebook two years ago for $1 billion in cash and stock; it’s almost unimaginable to think about life without it.
According to the app’s website, 60 million photo’s, on average, are uploaded daily; there are 200 million active users with 20 billion photo’s shared, and 1.6 billion of these ‘liked’ daily. Those are huge stats considering the app is still an infant. Combined with the power and knowledge of Facebook, who knows where it’ll be in the next four years.
So ingrained is this app into our culture that even celebs are seen posing or posting almost daily. Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez are but a few who use this app almost every day. And why not, it’s easier and more convenient than carrying around a separate point-and-shoot camera. Plus, you never know who you’re going to bump into.
